Background

The Precision Valley Free Clinic (PVFC) began as an umbrella agency of The Family Center, but became an independent program in 2000. Its purpose is to provide free episodic medical care to the uninsured and underinsured in the greater Springfield area. Those who have insurance, but fall within maximum income guidelines (currently at or below 200% federal poverty level) are eligible for care if their deductibles are a barrier to them receiving care elsewhere. Eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Clinic patients in need of more extensive or specialized care are referred to local providers for free or reduced cost medical services. The local hospital provides referred clinic patients with free basic radiology services, and PATH Lab provides free laboratory services. PVFC has a small budget to provide pharmaceutical assistance to patients with no insurance coverage and assists patients in enrolling in pharmaceutical companies’ patient assistance programs. Some funding is reserved to help patients access dental care.

A grant funded physician assistant and volunteer medical professionals staff the clinic. Patients receive quality medical care from compassionate health care providers. There is no expectation for services, and patients won’t be asked. However, any donation is gratefully accepted.

Patients may volunteer their time and/or skills to the Clinic. Volunteers can help in many ways, including fundraising, special events, staffing the clinic, and office assistance. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the office at 885-1616.
